Quilt Evolution
These paintings have their starting point in a large framed silk quilt top which I have had for 35 years. It is made up of tiny triangles which form and re-form into hexagons and larger triangles depending on the way it is observed.
Antique quilt
I have taken the basic element of an iscosoles triangle and changed its scale and color to create new images. The triangles eventually "escape" from their rigid geometric patterns thus enabling me to follow them into new design territory. Eventually I plan to take the triangle shape and use it in other materials like wood and acrylic to make 3 dimensional puzzle paintings. Perhaps we will come full circle and return to making art using these shapes in textiles again. Here are some of the first set of works inspired by the antique quilt whose graphic qualities have amazed me for more than 3 decades.

6 1/2 Bridge Street Gallery - South Dartmouth, MA
Marty and partners have opened a new gallery of Fine Art and Distinctive Crafts
in the charming Village of Padanaram in the Town of S. Dartmouth, MA. This area
is known as the South Coast and is more charming and much less commercial than
Cape Cod and MUCH easier to access from Providence or Boston. Known for its
beautiful working farms and its beaches, bays, inlets, tidal creeks and lovely harbors,
this part of Massachusetts is a paradise for anyone who paints the landscape. It is sublimely
beautiful in all seasons of the year.
Our Gallery represents 14 artists from the New England area who express their inner
visions by creating paintings, art glass, bronze sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, decorative mirror
frames, photography and more. We have tried to choose artists whose work reflects the special qualities of coastal New England.
We welcome your visit this summer. We will be OPEN every day in July and August.
